Fibroid Alert
If you've tried everything short of standing on your head to avoid surgery for uterine fibroids, you may have a new less extreme option available to you. Researchers in France and California have created a new procedure whereby tiny plastic pellets are fed, via a catheter threaded through an incision in the groin, into the vessel supplying blood to the fibroid, effectively cutting off the tumor's blood supply. The procedure requires only light sedation, and the quarter-inch incision heals without stitches. And the fibroids? They shrink an average of 65 percent or wither away altogether.
